Pakistan has become the exporter of 4G smartphones as the country sent out its first ever shipment to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with the tag “Manufactured in Pakistan”.
The consignment was sent out by Inovi Telecom, which was earlier authorized by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to manufacture smartphones in Pakistan. A total of 5500 units of 4G mobiles were exported to UAE.
The telecom authority congratulated the manufacturer for their achievement. PTA in a statement said that this is the result of concerted efforts for the development of mobile device manufacturing ecosystem in the country. “The successful implementation of the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) and enabling government policies including the Mobile Manufacturing Policy created a favorable environment for mobile device manufacturing in Pakistan”, the statement added.
Under the mobile manufacturing policy, the PTA had in April 2021 issued Inovi Telecom with the authorization by the PTA to manufacture mobiles in Pakistan. Within four months, the company managed to achieve exporting 'Manufactured in Pakistan' phones.
Chief Executive of Inovi, Zeeshan Mian Noor said that their main target was to penetrate in low-end markets of Middle East including Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan.
“We are manufacturing the Chinese brands and there are a large number of expat workers in the Gulf countries,” he said, adding the hi-end consumers of Gulf countries prefer top world class mobile brands and we should not even try to get involved in that market.”
