Whenever you start your PlayStation 5 (PS5), the Dual-sense controller’s mic automatically turns on. If you forget about it, you’ll transmit your screams and background noises in multiplayer games. However, you can mute the microphone by default to avoid embarrassment.

You can mute the mic and PS5’s audio using a Dual-sense controller at any time. However, you have to consciously think to do that, or let members on the multiplayer games tell you. And the latter rarely happens.

The Dual-sense controller’s built-in microphone turns on whenever you boot your PlayStation 5. But you can set it to mute and turn on the microphone only when required.

Set a Dual Sense Controller Mic to Mute by Default

On your PlayStation 5’s home screen, go to the gear-shaped “Settings” icon in the top-right corner.

From the Settings menu, scroll down and select “Sound.”

Select “Microphone” from the left column.

Select the “Microphone Status When Logged In” option, which shows “On” by default.

When the toggle option opens, select “Mute.” After that, the “Microphone Status When Logged In” will show as “Mute.”

Now, your Dual-sense controller will have a solid orange light on the Mute button when you start the PlayStation 5. To unmute the mic on the Dual-sense controller, tap the Mute button, and the orange light will switch off.

That’s it! You’ll never have to worry about accidentally letting the Dual-sense controller transmitting your voice or the surrounding noises.
